Five easy autumn outfit ideas

Effortless autumnal looks that require little to no effort.

Now is the time to start thinking about your autumn/winter wardrobe. We all know that the British weather can't be relied on, so it is essential to have layers at the ready for layering up or stripping back. Plenty of my favourite Talking of Plants pieces are trans-seasonal, making them clever staples to invest in at any time – who says you can’t wear florals all year long?! I have identified five looks using some of my favourite t-shirts and sweaters layered with jackets, shirts and knitwear.

Autumn dressing doesn't have to be muted. You can bring in brighter, autumn-leaf colours to make an outfit pop, or tone down fall tones with earthy-hued pieces like brown leather boots and neutral knits. And never forget jeans go with everything! All of the ideas can be mixed and matched, so you'll you can swap pieces out to create lots of fun, colourful outfits this autumn. My style notes can generally be applied to outfits for everyone.

Keep scrolling to shop five autumn outfit ideas that are easy-peasy to style.

2. Checked shirt + graphic tee

Style note: Wear your shirt open as the weather cools down, to help you transition from autumn into early winter. Keep the check simple to allow the t-shirt to take centre stage. Pair with your favourite jeans to keep it casual.

Featured product: “The Melba” men’s t-shirt (rust).

3. Sweater + denim

Style note: This look works with a sweatshirt layered over longer denim shirts and shirt dresses. Wear dresses with thick tights and biker boots for effortless style.

Featured product: “The Dreamer” women’s jumper (navy).

4. Oversized knits + tee + ankle boots

Style note: Keep it neutral by choosing jeans in a similar shade to your knitwear (knitted cardigans, blanket scarves and capes work equally well). Accessorise with statement sunglasses and oversized accessories to balance the volume of the layers.

Featured product: “The Nerine” women’s t-shirt (white).

5. Tailored coat + tee + scarf

Style note: Select just one or two main colours for your outfit to keep it simple. You can add a splash of colour with a brightly coloured scarf, or let your graphic t-shirt do all the talking.

Featured product: “The Bombus” women’s t-shirt (white).
